PREVIEW | KIMBERLEY MINERS WELFARE RESERVES VS BINGHAM TOWN
A CHANGE OF VENUE AS UNDERWOOD IS UNDER WATER
UP NEXT, The reserves are hosting today's match at Kimberley Leisure Centre on the 4G pitch because Underwood Villa’s ground has fallen victim of the weather. Last seasons’ fellow promoted team, and runners up behind Kimberley, Bingham Town are today’s visitors.
With two wins from their last five matches the miners go into this match knowing that a win is essential to keeping up with second and third, while avoiding slipping down the table with the chasing pack breathing down their necks.
Bingham Town come to Kimberley in mixed form themselves, having won just once in their last five matches in all competitions. With a game in hand on their hosts, a victory would see them move into the top six as just seven points separates Awsworth in second and Arnold Town in twelfth spot.
Kimberley last played two weeks ago as they travelled to face Aslockton & Orston. Alfie Newbold opened the scoring for Kimberley before the hosts struck twice, subjecting the miners to a defeat on their travels.
Bingham's last match was also two weeks ago as they went down 2-0 away at Beeston Town.
LAST TIME AROUND
In April, the Miners welcomed fourth placed Bingham Town to The Stag Ground. With Bingham still being in the hunt with their games in hand, this was to be a huge match for both sides. Despite being under the cosh early on, Kimberley opened the scoring through a penalty from Bijan Pakrouz after Louis Fazal was brought down in the box after just seven minutes. Brad Mee added to the lead just six minutes later and Kimberley looked to be well on their way. Bingham had other ideas and totally dominated a second half where the home side struggled to get the ball out of their own half. Bingham grabbed a goal back midway through the second half and then equalised after a very soft penalty decision following what looked like a fantastic tackle. Bingham looked more likely to take the three points but Kimberley managed to hold on for the draw. Final score 2-2.
The previous meeting was in October last year, where Bingham ran out comfortable winners. Jacob Boyes scored twice and Kieran Stanley and Angus Millar sealed the 4-0 for Bingham.
FINALLY
Both sides will go into the match knowingthat three points are needed in order to keep up with the teams above them. Anything less will see them slip down the table and risk mid-table obscurity come the end of the season.
The match is on the 4G at Kimberley Leisure Centre and kicks off at 2pm.
