On Saturday, the first team welcomed high flying Boston Town to Greenwich Avenue for potentially the last time this season as The Stag Ground awaits final sign off before a planned reopening this weekend. Boston opened the scoring after nine minutes through Limb. The lead was doubled after another nine minutes through Munton, with Limb turning provider on this occasion. Max Thornberry grabbed a goal back for Kimberley just two minutes later with a close range header, taking the score into half time at 2-1 to the visitors. Tom Hilton smashed the ball into the goal just seven minutes into the second half with a strike he’s probably never managed before and will unlikely manage again. A great goal. Twenty minutes later and mayhem ensued. A bizarre decision from the referee where Kimberley should’ve had a throw in, he instead gave Boston a free kick. Boston took the lead as the free kick was sent into the box to be finished off from close range with Kimberley players, management and supporters raging at the decision. Just three minutes later, another moment of madness came as Josh Timson received a red card for an elbow, when in fact there was a simple coming together of two players shoulder to shoulder. Five crazy minutes won the game for Boston who continue their chase for top spot.
Final Score - Kimberley Miners Welfare 2-3 Boston Town
The Reserves were back on the 4G of Kimberley Leisure centre as they welcomed Collingham FC in the semi final of the County Cup. A physical Collingham side started as they meant to go on with a solid, organised defence who were instructed to knock it long to a dangerous two strikers up top. They took advantage early on, scoring a great goal just four minutes into the game and were able to then sit back stubbornly for the rest of the game. Kimberley had the vast majority of the possession and, as in recent weeks were unable to find the back of the net despite having numerous chances. Frustrations became apparent as for the second week running, Kimberley were down to ten men after a rash elbow came from getting wound up by a clever and experienced Collingham defender.
Final Score - KMW Reserves 0-1 Collingham
[b]Sunday the 8th of March/b]
Our EMPAL side travelled to face Dyrda FC in the league. Two goals from Ross King were not enough as the lads went down 3-2.
Our Veterans maintained their run of 2-1 wins, making it a third in a row as they beat second placed and previously unbeaten Cotgrave. Matt Bowler and Darren Charlton grabbed the goals to take the miners six points clear although they can be overtaken by one of the two teams below them if all games in hand are won.
