ONLY ONE WIN IN A TOUGH WEEKEND FOR THE MINERS

Here are the results of the matches played at the weekend

Saturday the 8th of March

On Saturday, the first team welcomed Wisbech Town to the Stag Ground. The miners started well, with Zak Sandhu opening the scoring as early as the second minute. They had a goal disallowed for handball as the ball was bundled into the net in a pileup of players. The referee must have had good eyes to spot any handball. Wisbech were given a penalty after a clumsy tackle in the host box. Ben Alsopp guessed the right way and saved the spot kick. Kimberley could, and should have gone on to wrap the game up by half time, such was their dominance in the first half. The second half however, was a different story. The visitors came out of the blocks in the same manner as Kimberley did in the first half and were rewarded with an equaliser just as quickly into the second period. With forty two minutes remaining, Kimberley would have expected to pick up where they left off in the first half and regain the lead. This was not the case. A very lacklustre second half from the hosts saw Wisbech take control of the match and wrap up the win with less than ten minutes to go as a cross was not dealt with and the ball found it's way into Alsopp's goal.
Final Score - Kimberley Miners Welfare 1 - 2 Wisbech Town

The Reserves travelled to face Stapleford Town Reserves in a vital match on Sawley Park. The hosts took the lead through Harley Fennell to go into half time 1-0 up. the miners woke up in the second half and ran riot, with goals from Bijan Pakrouz, Josh Caley and a brace from Ryan Whitehurst giving Kimberley a 4-1 win and a six point lead at the top of the league with seven games remaining, although Colsterworth in third have a game in hand and can close the gap to five points.

Sunday the 9th of March

Our team in the Long Eaton Sunday League faced Stanton Ilkeston at Windsor Crescent. A 1-1 draw see's the miners in fourth spot with seven league games and a cup final to go.

Our EMPAL side had no fixture this week

The under 18's travelled to face Stapleford Town Red. They went down 3-2 and were leapfrogged by their hosts, being pushed back to the foot of the table with three games of junior football to go.

Our Veterans hosted Selston at Digby Street. a 3-2 defeat saw them sit third from bottom with six games to go.

After a disappointing weekend for most of our teams, but joy for the reserves, all of our teams thank you for your continued support and ask that you stick behind them for the final few weeks. With some vital matches coming up, the supporters truly are our twelfth player and vital to our efforts.
