THE TEAM BEHIND THE TEAM

THE TEAM BEHIND THE TEAM

Dave Morley22 Oct 2024 - 15:53

The second week of this new feature sees us take a dip into the mind of a club legend

The week, to continue the new feature, we caught up with none other than "Mr Kimberley Miners Welfare" himself, club treasurer, reserves player, a man who has more than 700 appearances for the club. We give you, a true club legend in every sense of the word - Ian Shepherd.

Hi Ian, Thanks for taking the time to answer a few questions about yourself and how you fit in at the club.

Nickname
Shep

Briefly explain your role at the club
My primary role is club treasurer and I'm assisted (in no small measures) by our previous treasurer Jo Bradley. I've also been fundraising co-ordinator, first team manager jointly for a season and reserve team manager on two occasions. I also still play in the reserve team squad.

How long have you been at the club?
I've been at the club 25 years as a player and around 18 years on the committee.

Your history in football
My history in football is simply one club. Records don't go far enough back, but the estimate is around 700 games for Kimberley. I'd imagine about half of those as a first team player and then a mix of squads including reserves, old boys, vets and Sunday side.

Club supported
Forest fan but I'd like to see Notts do well.

Hobbies and interests
My hobbies are Football, gym, running and besides sport the History of war, WW1 particularly.

Favourite food
Lobster or Mushrooms but not together.

Favourite drink
Beer or whisky

Favourite film
Saving Private Ryan or Gangs of New York

Favourite TV show
Impractical Jokers.

Favourite sport outside of football
None specifically but I'll watch most.

Sporting hero
None, sportsman aren't heroes

Five dream party guests.
Stephen Fry
Adolf Hitler
Martin Luther King Jnr.
David Attenborough
Nikola Tesla

This should give you an insight into what happens to someone who spends their entire life at one club. An amazing guy.

Keep your eyes peeled to see who's turn it is next week
