On the pitch, the visitors proved vastly superior, demonstrating that although they are just one step higher than the miners in the football pyramid, there is a huge gap between the two sides. Having beaten Matlock Town during the week in a friendly match, we were aware of the threat that they posed. The Cleethorpes team consisted of players who were, big, strong, fast, skilful, experienced and organised. The match was played in great spirit. They are sure to be pushing at the top end of their division in the season. To quote our general manager, Danny Staley, "In my twelve years at the club, Cleethorpes were by far the best team to have played at the Stag Ground".

Off the pitch, Cleethorpes have been very gracious in their victory. Their supporters were very vocal in their support and followed the team in great numbers. The players all stayed for drinks at the clubhouse after the match and were genuinely great company.
