UP NEXT, the reserves take to the road as they brave rush hour traffic to get to the Centenary Sports Ground where they face Southwell City Reserves in a mid table clash. Southwell sit one place and six points behind the miners, who have two games in hand on their hosts and several of the teams above them in the table.
Kimberley will come into the match on a high after another great performance on Friday night at The Stag Ground. While the form over the last six matches shows three wins and three losses, the last two performances have been a huge improvement on recent weeks. This mixed form has seen the miners slip out of the reckoning for second spot, with the aim now to finish as high in the table as possible in their first season in step seven. Anywhere from second to fifteenth is still mathematically possible with ten matches still to play.
Southwell City Reserves have an almost identical record in that they’ve won three and drawn three from their last six matches, although the goals scored and conceded are higher in both cases. The hosts will see the match as a chance to gain ground on Kimberley, while knowing that a slip up would open the door for lower placed teams to gain ground over the coming weeks.
On Friday evening, the reserves hosted Notts Olympic at The Stag Ground in what can only be described as a magnificent performance. A brace from the returning Rob De La Silva Makamu sandwiched a goal from Dan Walker gave the miners a half time lead of 3-1 as the visitors managed to find the back of the net. Substitute Luke Marshall made absolutely sure of the result in second half injury time to complete the rout.
Final Score - KMW Reserves 4-1 Notts Olympic
On Saturday, Southwell Reserves welcomed Aslockton & Orston to the Centenary Sports Ground. Jake Fitch scored the only goal for Southwell as a hat trick from Jack Robb wrapped up the win for the visitors.
Final Score - Southwell City Reserves 1-3 Aslockton & Orston
LAST TIME AROUND
In September, the reserves were at “home” at Underwood for the second weekend in a row as they welcomed Southwell City Reserves to Bracken Park. After an uneventful first half, the teams went in goalless at the break. Things livened up in the second half as just ten minutes into the action, Jacob Davies received a second yellow card and reduced his team to ten men. Southwell seized on this almost immediately as they took the lead just two minutes later through substitute Henry Eastgate. Robert Da Silva levelled things eight minutes later, before Southwell again took the lead through Eastgate on seventy two. Joe Gillan rescued a point for Kimberley with seven minutes of normal time remaining.
Final Score - Kimberley Miners Welfare Reserves 2-2 Southwell City Reserves
