PREVIEW | KIMBERLEY MINERS WELFARE vs GRANTHAM TOWN

PREVIEW | KIMBERLEY MINERS WELFARE vs GRANTHAM TOWN

Dave Morley29 Jul - 19:59

THE MINERS AIM TO FOLLOW UP THEIR OPENING DAY AWAY TRIUMPH AT THEIR TEMPORARY HOME

UP NEXT, after a stunning opening day victory, the miners welcome relegated Grantham Town to Greenwich Avenue. Both teams secured three points on Saturday and will be looking to continue that form into tomorrow night's match at our temporary landlords, Bradford United.

Kimberley will approach the match in the hope of progress, while also being aware of the second game of last season, having also won the first game of the season well, only to let things slip in the second fixture. With a sense of cautious optimism, the miners will be aware of the quality that the opponents possess.

Grantham Town, having been relegated into this division from the Northern Premier League Division One Midlands, will be aiming to bounce back up to step four at the first attempt and will be expecting to take the points.

Kimberley faced Melton Town at Melton Sports Village on Saturday. After an even first half, the miners dominated the second, with two goals and an assist from man of the match, Finn Ryder, along with a goal from new signing Kole Lambert. A stunning 3-0 victory gave the miners a second win in 2025 over Melton.

Grantham hosted Belper United in their first match of the season. A Cameron Johnson hat trick and a goal from Mason Lee wrapped up a 4-1 victory for the Gingerbreads, seeing them sit second in the league after the first round of fixtures.

LAST TIME AROUND

The two sides last met in a preseason friendly last summer at The Stag Ground. Grantham raced into a 2-0 lead. With half an hour to go, substitute Ben Morley pulled a goal back for Kimberley and then set up an equaliser minutes later, nodding a cross back across goal for captain Ryan Wheatley to head in for a 2-2 draw.

FINALLY

A reminder that we will be hosting the match at our temporary home of Basford United. The ground is on Greenwich Avenue in Basford, NG6 0LD. There is plenty of parking space and the bar will be open.
