PREVIEW | COTGRAVE FC VS KIMBERLEY MINERS WELFARE RESERVES

PREVIEW | COTGRAVE FC VS KIMBERLEY MINERS WELFARE RESERVES

Dave Morley6 Sep 2025 - 09:00

THE RESERVES MAKE THE TRIP TO FACE THE LEAGUE LEADERS

UP NEXT, the reserves are on the road again as they travel to face the current league leaders Cotgrave as they search for back to back wins for the first time this season.

Having played four matches at step seven now, Matt Ellis’ team have won twice, drawn once and lost once. This young team has adapted well so far, but know that today's match will likely be their toughest test yet this season as they face a side that is flying at the top of the league with a game in hand.

Cotgrave will be confident of taking all three points today as they sit top, dropping just two points so far this season and have the best goal difference after five games played.

Kimberley will take heart as their last match saw them travel to an unbeaten Beeston FC at Nottingham University. Three goals in eleven first half minutes from Luke Marshall, Robert Da La Silva Makamu and Bernard Ankamah wrapped up a 3-0 win for the miners.

Cotgraves last match saw them welcome Wollaton FC on Tuesday night under the lights. With both sides unbeaten, a 2-2 would seem like a fair result as Joe McLaughlin and Lee Potts scored for Cotgrave, while Alex Doyle and Joe Evans scored for Wollaton.

A LITTLE ABOUT THE OPPOSITION

Cotgrave FC formed in 1946 and played in the South Notts Realm League and the Notts & District League. After the colliery opened the club eventually merged with the Welfare team in 1983, becoming Cotgrave United. Over the proceeding years Cotgrave played in a few different leagues under different guises and became Cotgrave Welfare FC, winning the Notts Senior League title in 2006-07. In 2011 Cotgrave Welfare merged with Cotgrave PFC ladies and Cotgrave Colts football club so that all the towns teams now play under the one banner of Cotgrave FC.

FINALLY

Both teams will be keen to get some more points on the board this early in the season. We expect a great game

See you there
